James Hopkins Trust provides care & support for Gloucestershire's life limited and life threatened young children. Our free nursing respite can be day or night in the family home or at our multi-sensory respite centre and gardens called Kites Corner. We are here to create special, lasting memories.

Story

James Hopkins Trust provides care and support for Gloucestershire’s families and their young children who are life-limited or life threatened.

Holloway Friendly has been supporting James Hopkins for over 8 years now so we wanted them to be our chosen charity for our biggest fundraiser yet.

In June, people from around our business will be climbing Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacon Mountains. Some will even be replicating the Fan Dance challenge, a gruelling 24km SAS selection test march! Each step up brings up closer to our aim to raise £10000 for James Hopkins.

What does the James Hopkins Trust do?

Nobody expects to outlive their child, but some parents will be given the devastating news their child has a disability that will shorten or severely limit their life.

When this happens, parents often dedicate their lives to loving and looking after their children. They may need to learn complex medical procedures, and the care they’ll need to give to keep them safe.

Living with their child’s fragile health and the possibility of them dying can be exhausting and take a huge emotional strain. James Hopkins Trust exist to provide much-needed respite care for families to those families, and their babies and young children.

How do they help?

Please watch our short video to see the incredible work they do.

It features the beautiful 4-year-old Noah, who was born with Cytomegalovirus. This gave him brain damage and Noah’s deaf and blind and with epilepsy. Unable to sit, walk or talk. This means a 24 hour a day caring role for his mum, Michelle, which is a real labour of love. Noah struggles with sleeping, with uncontrollable seizures, breathing difficulties, vomiting and muscle spasms.

The amazing staff at James Hopkins give parents like Michelle the chance to step back from their intense caring responsibilities. For a full 24 hours, Michelle and her husband can get some much-needed rest or quality time with their young daughters and each other. Knowing their child is safe and being cared for. Giving Michelle and her husband quality time with their young daughter, or together, and much-needed rest.

Importantly, the children love it there too, with the staff dedicated to making their time their as fun as possible and tailored to their individual needs. You’ll see in our video just how much Noah loves it there.
