I don’t have personal experience of MND, but Sports Personality Of The Year really got to me when Kevin Sinfield was given his award, the tears were running. What an incredible man doing incredible things to raise money for the MND community.

The following day I had a long drive and I just couldn’t get the images of the previous night out of my head. Kevin Sinfield with his best mate Rob Burrow, Lindsey Burrow, Doddie’s boys and Ed Slater all on the same stage. United by the cruelest of diseases.

It was then I began to think of what I could do. I’d grown a mullet for MyName5Doddie and Children’s Hospice South West in 2021 during the lockdowns and raised almost £3k. Great fun, but not exactly a challenge. And so the ridiculous idea of walking to Kent for my nephews 18th came about. 330 miles in three weeks. The walk takes me from the county of my birth and my home, to where I spent my formative years in Seaton, Devon and then on to Kent.

I love my rugby, had some great days out at Twickenham watching England, Premiership Finals, watching Cornwall in the County Championship, travelling to New Zealand for a Lions Tour. MyName5Doddie was an easy choice. Doddie was part of one of my favourite teams, the 1997 Lions. So you will see #mistakenidentity on my Instagram posts. If you know, you know.
