Story
In June 2020 Julian received his diagnosis of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy - a rare and incurable condition which resulted in his death less than four years later.
In April 2019, before PSP raised its ugly head, Julian and I set ourselves the target of walking the Viking Way. The Viking Way is a long distance - 147 mile trail spanning from the River Humber through the county of Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland.
What with school holidays and then eventually Covid it was a challenge that we started but never completed.
So, this Summer the boys and I are aiming to walk the entire length of the Viking Way to raise funds for St Barnabas who were, in all respects, the most amazing support to Julian whilst he was at home, a source of enormous comfort to the family, and compassionate, warm and caring to Julian in his final weeks at the hospice.
Since words are so often inadequate, we are hoping our feet will do the talking and we will make this epic trip for St Barnabas and for our darling Julian, to finish what he started.
St Barnabas Hospice is a local independent charity who supports more than 10,500 people across Lincolnshire with a life-limiting or terminal illness each year. They deliver free, high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care and support to patients, their families and carers. They aim to enable them to live as fully as they are able for however many days, weeks or months they have left.
They are reliant on the financial support the community provides, to be there for more patients, their families and carers, every day of the year.
