A Walk For Kat - Part Four

Thomas Hitchcock is raising money for Forest Holme Hospice Charity
In memory of Katherine Hitchcock

South Coast Yomp - Part Four · 4 September 2026

Forest Holme Hospice Charity ensures that everyone in our community affected by a life-limiting illness or bereavement gets the care and support they need, either at home or in our dedicated hospice facility.

Story

Dear Friends,

In loving memory of my sister Katherine, we are continuing our walk along the South West Coast Path.

The South West Coast Path extends for 630 miles, beginning in Minehead, Somerset, and following the magnificent coastlines of Devon and Cornwall before concluding at Poole Harbour in Dorset.

We have already completed the section from Poole to Paignton. This year, we will undertake the next stage of our journey, walking from Paignton to Bigbury-on-Sea in Devon.

The Yomp Continues

DAY 1 – Paignton to Dartmouth

17.9 miles / 2,175 ft elevation

DAY 2 – Dartmouth to Higher Nature Centre (near Salcombe)

21.7 miles / 2,825 ft elevation

DAY 3 – Higher Nature Centre to Bigbury-on-Sea

19.5 miles / 1,975 ft elevation

The dedicated team at Forest Holme provided Katherine with exceptional support, care, and kindness during her time of need. It is vital that they can continue to offer the same compassionate assistance to others facing similar challenges.

Our goal for 2026 is to raise £6,443, bringing our overall fundraising total to £30,000.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a meaningful difference to those in need and their families. I remain deeply grateful for any support you are able to provide.

Update as of Monday 1st of September: we've smashed our £6,443 target, meaning we've now raised over £30,000 for Forest Holme. We all agreed, the team and I, that increasing the target to £11,000 seems like a challenge we can all aim for, as we still have a number of days left before we embark on the walk.
