Walk for Women 2025

Pallavi Modha is raising money for Action Village India

Walk for Women 2025 · 5 July 2025

Action Village India supports the marginalised and the dispossessed to find their voice and their place within the democratic and the development process, through our 9 partner organisations all based in India. Indian answers to Indian problems.

Story

I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the walkers, volunteers, and donors for making this event such a great success in my absence. I was truly amazed by the photographs and clips shared by everyone at the end of the day—it was inspiring to see the community come together with such energy and purpose.

Thanks to your incredible efforts and generosity, we have raised a total of £6,067, including Gift Aid. This is a fantastic milestone that will make a meaningful difference to the women empowerment projects of AVI in rural India.

I’m hopeful that the momentum will continue and that more donations will come in to help us reach our overall target. Every contribution counts toward creating lasting change.

Join us on Saturday, July 5 at Virginia Water for Walk for Women 2025 and walk in solidarity with thousands of women across rural India who are working to build better lives for themselves and their communities.

The annual fundraising event ‘Walk for Women’ returns in its 22nd year in 2025 to support Action Village India’s work with women across rural India. Over the years, this annual walk has become a small but powerful tradition—bringing people together to walk for something that matters deeply: equality, opportunity, and dignity for women.

The Cause You’re Supporting

This year, the Walk for Women is supporting three powerful, women-led initiatives through Action Village India.

In the state of Bihar & Jharkhand, the Girls’ Education Programme is supporting 1100 girls to stay in school, who otherwise would drop-out or be married. Action Village India supports expenses for their school fees, stationary, tuition classes, and uniforms, while simultaneously working with their families and communities to work towards a broader societal change.

In coastal Odisha, women living in the tsunami-prone sensitive ecology of Chilika Lake have come together in Self-Help Groups to learn livelihood skills and build small enterprises – from poultry farming to kitchen spices. The women are also leading plantations of casuarina that will serve as a protective barrier against cyclonic storms. These women are leading the way toward sustainable livelihoods and ecological resilience in their communities.

In Madhya Pradesh, Action Village India is supporting indigenous socio-economically marginalised women’s employment and self-reliance. Through skills training, group savings, and peer networks, women are starting to earn their own incomes. These women are also learning about climate change, its adverse effects, and building community resilience.

What Your Donation Can Do

£30 can cover a girl’s school fees or stationery needs for an entire academic year—helping her stay in school and focus on learning.

£40 can provide a month’s worth of teaching and learning materials for a tuition centre, supporting dozens of young learners.

£50 can fund a workshop for self-help group members on how to access government schemes—opening doors to vital support.

£60 can support the cost of gender awareness workshops in one community, encouraging dialogue and change.

£90 can also cover the monthly stipend for a woman training to become a beauty technician—supporting her path to financial independence.

£100 can provide a household with the tools and support to start a small income-generating activity.

£150 can place a computer in a digital literacy centre, helping young indigenous women build confidence and skills for the future.

These projects are life-changing. But they can’t happen without people like you walking beside them. If you can, please donate—every pound helps women take another step forward.

What to Expect

The walk usually lasts around 2–3 hours (covering approximately 5 miles) and is perfect for a group of enthusiastic walkers of all ages. After the walk, we set aside another 3–4 hours to enjoy a picnic, spend time together, and connect as a community. It’s also a lovely chance to chat about Action Village India’s inspiring work, and how we’re supporting projects that empower women across rural India.
