Firstly, thank you for visiting our page!
We are taking on the 100k Walking Challenge around the Isle of Wight- without stopping! This will mean walking through the night 🌙
The reason we're doing this is to raise money for HOPE for Epilepsy. My wonderful and incredibly strong friend Lorraine and her husband Jay have been through the toughest and most uncertain time which she describes below. As I'm sure many have experienced, when someone you love is going through hardship all you want to do is help, in any way possible. HOPE for Epilepsy have been integral in providing Lorraine and Jay vital equipment and so we are taking on this challenge to raise funds for them as they are entirely volunteer led and receive no statutory funding. Please take the time to read Lorraine's story below and donate if you can 💜
Out of nowhere, at three years old Elijah had a seizure last February. Within a month he was experiencing 5 different types of seizures, and had more tests than we care to recall.. We later found out that his rare form of epilepsy doesn’t have a good outlook, and despite over 20 stays in hospital and 8 different meds, we can’t seem to get full control of his seizures. This has resulted in a brain condition, leaving us with more questions than answers and is utterly devastating.
After one particularly bad seizure in the middle of the night I found him unresponsive with blue lips, we found out he is in the highest risk category for SUDEP (sudden death in epilepsy) - which claims more than 600 children in the UK each year.
We were so grateful to find Hope for Epilepsy - within 48 hours of contacting them they sent us an anti suffocation pillow and offered so much invaluable advice and support.
We found links to other charities, advice and support from other parents experiencing similar, and really crucially the ability to speak to medical experts and ask questions and help us be as informed as we possibly can be.
Any funding raised will ultimately fund more and more of these pillows and activities, and I believe as a direct result will save lives.
