Sunrise of Hope – Walking for JP

On 13th September at 6am, Dave, Caroline and I — and hopefully Elvis and Mavis too! — will be taking part in the Sunrise of Hope walk to raise money for GibSams, a Gibraltar-based charity offering free, confidential support to people struggling with their mental health.

We’re walking in memory of our dear friend Johnny, who died by suicide just over two years ago. The 26th August would have been his 60th birthday.

Johnny was one of life’s big characters — full of energy, generous, chaotic and always up for a laugh. But in the last few years of his life, his mental health began to dim that light, and tragically, he didn’t make it through.

We’re walking for Johnny, and for everyone who’s ever felt lost in the dark. We’re walking to raise awareness, to break the silence, and to help GibSams continue their vital work in our community.

Whether we take on the Med Steps or another route, the goal is the same: to walk with purpose, to honour those we’ve lost, and to shine a light for those still struggling.

I’m hoping lots of our Entain & Evoke colleagues will join us — whether it’s walking, donating, or simply helping spread the word. Let’s come together to make a difference.

I know some of you didn’t know Johnny, but I hope that by sharing his story, we can help someone else find the support they need.
