Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Kimmy and Gary are raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust by walking 100KM in 24 hours.
Last summer our 16-year-old nephew Phoenix was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, Osteosarcoma in his left femur bone. Having lost his Mum to cancer when he was only 3 years old, this was another devastating blow to our family. Since his diagnosis, Phoenix had an above-knee amputation in November to remove the tumour, and just a couple of weeks ago he started walking with a prosthetic leg. Sadly, the disease has spread to his lungs and he continues to receive treatment for the foreseeable future. Despite these life changing challenges, it is so inspiring to see our young nephew going through this journey with such strength and positive spirit, we want to carry his strength and spirit with us on our 100km walk.
Teenage Cancer Trust is a specialised cancer charity that specifically helps young people and their families going through cancer. They have been and continue to be a huge support for Phoenix and our family, providing advice, emotional support, financial support and a friendly face to talk to. Additionally, they also fund large projects such as the Hub at University College London Hospital where Phoenix receives his chemotherapy treatment, it’s an amazing facility that provides a friendlier, less-clinical space with games room, gym, laptops and communal treatment room that helps patients connect with other teenagers going through the same experience.
We want to raise money for the Trust to help them continue the fantastic work they do as it has truly made a significant impact in coping with Phoenix’s cancer journey.
