Story
I’m fundraising for both RSABI and SAYFC. It says SAYFC but JG doesn’t allow for two. SAYFC and I will make sure to send 50% on completion to RSABI and show proof of the transaction.
On the 11th of June last year one of the good ones, Emily asked me to do the moonwalk with her as Lauren (who she had planned to do it with unfortunately had COVID) no longer could! I said yes and was very annoyed at myself that I wasn’t able to walk the full 26 miles…even though I had written the distance on my bra!
Over that summer, for other unrelated reasons I had the worst mental health I had ever experienced. I was always one of those people that was ‘fine’, pretending nothing was wrong and in truth at that point I was broken. Sleeping for no more than an hour a night, struggling with relationships and looking absolutely fine to those close to me - major defence mechanism! If I didn’t have the team I do at work, family and friends that were supportive without even knowing it, it probably could have been a worse story!
So I set myself a challenge to walk 3km a day on top of life from that August, that quickly jumped to 7 and now almost 14 on average with a weekly goal of 100km…the last month has been a burger and chips fest with the return of shows thoughSo this brings me to my challenge! Over the last year walking has been a life change for me, mental health is bliss, I’ve lost weight and still heading in the right direction, I can walk a marathon without really thinking about it…but can I walk 4.7 marathons?! 112 miles, going around the Isle of Arran twice, my aim is about 70 miles the first stint and the remaining in the second. I am having a break half way - soz!
This will be done in aid of RSABI, the guys that help people that are in the position (and worse) I was in the summer and SAYFC, an organisation I had little to do with before May last year and now find myself vice-chair of a national level committee, as part of the SLT and so ingrained in the fantastic organisation that it is…offering countless opportunities for Scotland’s youngsters!
For reference in my short time I’ve had the opportunity to perform at the armadillo, competed in various events, made lifelong friends and am being sent to Africa next month! If you could donate to these two charities it would mean the world and I will ‘undo’ the donation should I fail…because I don’t know if I’ll manage it! No one wants to sponsor someone doing something they know they can!
