Story
Hello wonderful people,
Carrie Wray and I are about to embark on our next big adventure – the Race the Sun triathlon-style challenge along the stunning Jurassic Coast on June 14th. Yes, you read that right – from dawn to dusk, we will be biking, hiking, and paddling our way through some of the UK's most breathtaking scenery. And we need your support!
You might be wondering, why are we doing this? Well, our reasons are both different and similar. On a personal note, I previously maintained a very active sporting lifestyle. However, in 2018, I began experiencing increasing health issues and was subsequently diagnosed with an arthritic autoimmune condition. The onset of the Covid pandemic, coupled with my relocation to another continent, made resuming serious fitness activities a considerable challenge.
We both experienced individuals close to us being diagnosed with terminal illness, which spurred a collective desire to overcome our respective fitness setbacks. Consequently, we decided to undertake a race that is more demanding than we may be prepared for but we committed to give it our best effort. Coincidentally, Carrie's husband also suffers from the same autoimmune condition so she’ll be understanding when I may need to catch my breath during the race.
Having met Carrie just over 18 months ago, and in that time, we've shared many work adventures. It seemed like a natural leap to take on this crazy challenge together. Plus, I know that when the going gets tough, we make a pretty good team.
Race the Sun pits teams against each other in a thrilling race against the setting sun, and we’re excited to compete and give our best. But this isn’t just about the adventure – it’s about supporting a cause close to our hearts. Action Medical Research funds invaluable research in hospitals and institutions across the UK, focusing on clinical research and the prevention, management, and cure of disabling diseases and conditions. This UK-wide charity is dedicated to saving and changing children's lives through medical research.
Giving back is a value that both Carrie and I hold dear, and this event seemed like the perfect fit with both of us having been involved in raising funds for charities as WIT Chairs. We are excited to take on this challenge and help support such a worthy cause.
So, what do you say? Will you support us in making a difference? Every donation, big or small, will help support life-changing medical research. Help us make this adventure count and I promise to post lots about all the hilarity of us training for this race as two nearly middle aged women.
Thank you for your support and generosity,
P.S. Wish us luck – we’re going to need it!
