Warren Bird is raising money for The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation
In memory of Grandad Ken

Sponsored Walk - March of the Day III · 6 June 2026

Former Liverpool, Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers footballer Stephen Darby and close friend and British Forces Veteran Chris Rimmer have partnered together to launch the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation. Stephen and Chris both have Motor Neurone Disease and have created a Foundation to create awareness of MND, to fund and assist research into the illness with the quest of finding a cure for the illness, to raise funds and offer grants to those with MND, as well as creating a network to help provide information and emotional support network for those diagnosed with the disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This Saturday, 6th June, myself, Ellen and our friend Emma will be joining the CORE WALKERS from the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation as part of March of The Day III.

We'll be setting off from Barnsley FC and walking all the way to the Rob Burrow MND Centre, stopping at a number of football and rugby venues along the route, including Pontefract Collieries FC, Castleford Tigers, Leeds Rhinos and Leeds United, to name just a few.

In total, we'll be walking 42.9 miles, which is going to be incredibly challenging both physically and mentally. However, it's all for a cause that means so much to us – raising awareness and helping to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

In 2018, I lost my Grandad Ken, to this cruel disease. He was one of my best friends. He took me to football and cricket, taught me how to drive, and even gave me my first car after he was diagnosed with MND.

Watching him battle the disease and seeing the impact it had on him was heartbreaking, but I will always be proud of the courage and determination he showed. He fought hard and was able to see me reach my 21st birthday before sadly passing away a short time later.

We're taking on this challenge in his memory and in support of everyone affected by MND. Every donation, no matter how small, will help fund vital research and support those living with this devastating illness.

If you're able to donate, we'd be incredibly grateful. Even £1 can make a difference.

Thank you so much for your support.

Lots of love,

Warren, Ellen & Emma 💙🧡
