Story
I am running 300 miles from Washington DC to New York City, starting on Friday April 25th to raise money for cancer research.
My plan is to leave the White House on Friday April 25th arriving in Central Park, NYC, one week later.
It will equate to 7 consecutive days of running a 40+ mile ultra-marathon and then a half marathon on the last day into New York City.
When I was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2011, the doctor in charge of my treatment was called Johannes De Vos. He played an integral part in my treatment and care for 12 months. His work, when all hope seemed lost, saved my life, allowed me to become a dad, live my life to the fullest and be able to do this run. I am so honoured and humbled that he is going to run the last part of this challenge with me.
As time passes, I’m increasingly aware of how fortunate I am to have survived this disease. Cancer doesn’t discriminate, it touches us all, whether through our own battles or those of loved ones.
If you know someone fighting cancer or who has bravely faced it, I’d be honoured to run with their name on my shirt. Please send me their names and I’ll carry their spirit with me every step of the way.
