Clean water, the basic necessity for every human existence is still not accessible for all in 2024. Despite how developed our world is, currently in East Africa and India over 118 million people do not have access to clean water. Infact, 1 in 6 people are unable to access safe drinking water in Tanzania alone (WHO).

People living in remote and mountainous areas consequently have to walk miles and miles daily just to collect some water which is not even fit for human consumption. Worst still it is usual for young children to do this daily walk to fetch water for their household, losing out on what a typical child should be doing at this age, like going to school. The severity of a lack of clean drinking water in East African and Indian villages is dire. They depend on rain water and natural sources like rivers, springs and waterfalls. However, with a lack of secure infrastructure there is no means to get this water to people.

Over the last six years The Mainstay Foundation (TMF) has been working closely with these communities, in an aim to increase access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene services for rural communities. Resulting in making clean water accessible to over 657,000 people. Primarily the areas TMF works in are areas populated by followers of the Ahlulbayt who can’t access any clean water.

The Mainstay Foundation is and will continue to work with its trusted partners to ensure that donations collected from this Ramadhan Campaign are invested directly into projects to install water facilities in East Africa and India.

Pumps have already been installed and a few are due to be installed imminently, using the funds Noor Al Asr raised last Ramadhan
