Wayne and Erin 10k for 8.56 · 4 May 2025

The 8:56 Foundation is a Men’s Mental Health non profit organisation based in King’s Lynn, they aim to raise awareness, increase the profile of support and reduce the stigma associated with mental health in Norfolk. The foundation is run by volunteers, set up after losing local business man Lee Calton to suicide in April 2021. Lee was 37, very successful, was a great friend to all, with a huge smile he was very kind and generous and loved to do things for charities including running the London marathon three times. Norfolk’s suicide rate is above the national average, the 8:56 want to change this! By using sport as an aid, we want to encourage men to talk and reduce the risk of loneliness and isolation. The 8:56 Foundation Wellbeing Pathway is designed to help Men's Mental Health and wellbeing through Men’s Time Sports and Fishing Sessions, Our Peer Support Group, Talking Therapy and Wellness Football

Story

Life has a way of taking us on unexpected journeys. Thirteen years ago, I was passionate about basketball while my daughter excelled in gymnastics. I envisioned a future where we could train together and share the joy of running side by side. However, as life unfolded, challenges arose that led me to a difficult place. I experienced a breakdown, and my dreams of training faded into the background.

Now, after years of longing for that special moment with my daughter, we are finally seizing the opportunity to run together. This year, we are participating in the GEAR 10k for 8:56 Foundation on May 4th, 2025. I've reignited my passion for running and have become involved with the 8:56 Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting men's mental health. The impact this charity has had on my life over the past year has been profound.

I am reaching out to you with an open heart to ask for your support. Your sponsorship will not only help us achieve our goal of completing the 10k but will also contribute to a cause that is close to our hearts. Every contribution counts, no matter how small; it is deeply appreciated. While our aim is to finish the race in under an hour, what truly matters is crossing that finish line together as father and daughter.
