Story

We are taking on the challenge of running the London Marathon in April 2024, to raise much needed and vital funds for Cornwall Hospice Care.

In 2024 Wayne and Jane are once again running the London Marathon.

This time we are raising funds for Cornwall Hospice Care in memory of our friend Brian Clough, who was so well looked after at St Julia’s hospice in Hayle until he sadly passed in 2023.

Cornwall Hospice Care ‘provide compassionate specialised end of life care for patients, their families and carers.’ They have two hospices in Cornwall, St Julia’s in Hayle, and Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell.

Brian’s sons Matt & Drew and their families were blown away with the care and compassion their father received during his final days, from the staff at St Julia’s, so with this in mind, we have decided to raise as much money as we can to help Cornwall Hospice Care carry on with their invaluable work in the Cornish community.

The back story:

Wayne and Brian were friends for many, many years, brought together by fireworks! Eventually creating Caff & Clough Pyrotechnics, they put on displays for Cubert and surrounding villages for over 20 years.

Unfortunately due to Brian’s failing health 2021 was the last village display Wayne and Brian were involved with.

This has lead to Wayne and Jane carrying on with pyrotechnics with a Bodmin based company, and travel all over the South West putting on displays, as well as holding down the day jobs!

Once upon a time, Brian and his friend Stuart (also sadly deceased) were the stalwarts of the Monday & Friday night ‘culb’ at The Smugglers’ Den Inn. Many a pint of Tribute and tots of Laphroaig whisky were imbibed, much to the detriment of the bar staff, and the taxi driver patiently waiting outside to take them home! They were regularly joined by Wayne, and Stuart’s son Andrew, putting the world to rights, in their own undeniable way.

Help me to make a difference and keep the amazing nurses giving much needed care to those people living with a terminal illness in Cornwall right now.
