Story
After a seven-year wait for a ballot place at the London Marathon, I consider myself lucky. While this won't mark my first 26-mile run, I won't take this opportunity for granted.
My Charity:
I've opted to fundraise for WCIT Charity. I know WCIT Charity more than any other London Marathon recommended charity. The funds raised for it are certain to aid disadvantaged individuals, with transparency through published grants on the web. Additionally, being a member of the WCIT Education and Training Committee, I've witnessed first hand how these grants positively impact schools and communities.
My Pledge:
Initially I considered following Movember's approach by not getting any haircuts until after the Marathon. However, realising the impact of long hair on my running's aerodynamics and unnecessary air resistance, I've already had a haircut.
Starting in January, I'll be adopting a Flexitarian Diet, consciously consuming only what's necessary to avoid food wastage and minimise stress on our planet.
Also I'm taking on "Teetotal" after New Year's Day as part of my fundraising commitment. Although my close friends and WCIT mates are aware of my fondness for drinking, this serves as a test of my willpower and determination. I hope I won't fail on this one! Until then, I shall indulge as much as I can until the year's end.
My Training:
It has commenced with a soft start this week, transitioning to a proper one in January. It comprises a mix of steady runs, intervals, and long runs. I apologise in advance—I know I'll moan quite a bit about it in the coming months.
I'd greatly appreciate your support and encouraging words, especially if you notice me struggling due to abstaining from alcohol or feeling over-trained. 🙏
Peace and Love
