Story
On the 1st June 2026, our friend and neighbour, Jensen, sadly died at just 12 years old, from his deteriorating Muscular Dystrophy. Jensen was diagnosed at 6 years old with Duchenne, the most common, severe and rapidly deteriorating form of muscular dystrophy. Duchenne is caused by a genetic mutation that prevents the body from producing dystrophin, a protein essential for keeping muscle cells intact, causing rapid degeneration of all of the bodies muscles. Jensen's family have always been active in sharing his story to raise awareness and funds for vital research into Muscular Dystrophy.
So, I've roped in my partner in crime, Carly, and we hope to help raise money for research and care by taking on MDUKs "Pedal Paddle Peak" challenge this September in Jensen's memory. This is a 40km cycle, 3km sea kayak and 17km hike on the 26th September ...I know the cheeky boy would already be laughing at us learning to tandem kayak and the thought of Carly having to manage my lack of balance and sense of direction, as well as our combined distractibility!
Please help with any donation you can to fund vital research into this debilitating condition. Pics and updates to follow, when those donations start coming in! Thank you!
"Muscles. We use them to move. Walk, eat, smile, cry. Pump blood around our bodies. To breathe in and out. Muscles matter."
By fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy UK, we're helping to fund world-class research into effective treatments, and life changing support for the 110,000 people in the UK living with a muscle-wasting condition.
