This year I am running the Great North Run to raise money for Gateshead Health Charity and have opted the funds to be used in the Urology department there where I am currently working as a Nurse Practitioner.

Part of the role is to support men through diagnosis and treatment of Prostate Cancer. 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their life time and the role we nurses play is vital in their journey. We also provide support for other urological cancers such as kidney, bladder and testicle. We are also involved with people experiencing urinary difficulties and educate lifestyle changes or how to self catheterise. We also provide education and support to the staff on the wards within the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

I am hoping to raise money that could be put towards education events for the nursing staff in order to be able to continue provide high quality urological care to the people of Gateshead. Or we hope to utilise the funds making our waiting room more inviting for those patients sat waiting to receive their diagnosis.

Gateshead Health Charity supports Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust to improve patient care and enhance the healthcare environment, going above and beyond the core NHS funding. The funds we collect are also used to improve the hospital environment for our employees, patients, and their loved ones. This allows us to create a more inviting and cosy atmosphere, while also incorporating the latest advancements in modern medical technology, throughout all healthcare services and facilities that are part of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.
