Why I’m fundraising for ERIC

In November, I’m taking on a half marathon to raise money for a charity that means a huge amount to me — ERIC, The Children’s Bowel & Bladder Charity.

As Chair of ERIC’s Board of Trustees, I see first-hand the difference this small charity makes to children, young people and their families. I also see the dedication of the staff and volunteers who are there for families facing problems that can be painful, distressing and, all too often, difficult to talk about.

For some parents, ERIC is the place they turn when they simply don’t know where else to go. Our specialist Helpline, online information, webinars and resources provide expert advice, practical support and, perhaps most importantly, reassurance that they are not alone.

Last year, ERIC supported almost 9,000 parents and carers through our Helpline, emails and webchat, while more than 2 million people used our website.

But our work goes beyond supporting individual families. We train healthcare and early years professionals, influence policy and guidance, contribute to research and campaign to make sure children’s bowel and bladder health gets the attention it deserves.

Why does this matter? Because behind every statistic is a child who deserves to feel confident, comfortable and able to get on with being a child. It might be a parent who finally feels listened to, or a child who can go to school without fear or embarrassment. That is the difference ERIC can make.

ERIC has been doing this for 35 years, but the need for our work is as great as ever. Like many charities, we are working in challenging times, and we need the support of people who believe in what we do.

So, I'm asking you to support my half marathon challenge.

Every donation will help ERIC continue to be there for the next family who needs us — providing trusted advice, support and reassurance when it matters most.
