Story

What are we doing?

We have teamed up with Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) to help raise money for their emergency campaign in Gaza. We are a team of nine (Cameron, Catherine, Claire, Fiona, Florence, Jack, Matthew, Murray and Niamh) based in the Scottish Borders, Belfast, the Lake District, and Sydney. We will be running, cycling and swimming the virtual distance of 4,054.1 miles (6524.4km) from our home town, West Linton, to Gaza City between 8th August and 30th September.

Our virtual route goes from Scotland to Dover, across the Channel, through Europe into the Middle East and North Africa to Cairo, before entering Gaza via the Rafah crossing, the main humanitarian entry point.

From 8th August to 30th September we will be:

- Swimming 23 miles (37km) (the Channel plus various bridge crossings along route)

- Running 800 miles (1287.5 km) – through mountainous and rural terrain

- Cycling 3231.1 miles (5201.6km) – across smooth roads through Europe and North Africa

What is MAP?

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) are responding to the devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The people of Gaza are facing imminent famine, medics are pushed beyond their limits, and urgent medical aid is desperately needed. MAP provide hospitals and emergency responders with essential supplies. Help is desperately needed to raise critical funds to save lives.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is delivering their largest humanitarian response in order to meet critical health and humanitarian needs. Despite the blockade, their team in Gaza continue to use any available resources to deliver lifesaving medical and humanitarian aid, and support hospitals that are severely affected by the conflict. This includes distributing water to areas completely cut off from water supplies through daily water trucking and rehabilitating water networks, including to medical facilities. MAP also responds to medical emergencies by providing essential medical supplies and care to those in need. Additionally, they work to rehabilitate hospitals, provide essential health services at medical points, distribute clean water, support trauma and emergency response, provide vital mental health support and continue to deploy Emergency Medical Teams.

What can you do?

If you are able to donate any amount of money to this cause we would be extremely grateful. 100% of funds raised will go directly towards MAP’s emergency appeal providing supplies which are necessary for helping to save the lives of people Gaza. Please share, support, and help us raise life-saving funds.
