AJ Bell Great Bristol Run 2024 · 19 May 2024 ·

We launched Little Hero in 2019 after our little boy Will died following a 9 month battle with an aggressive version of a brain tumour called Medulloblastoma. Despite the devastating impact this had on our family, we were inspired by Will and his amazing fight and wanted to continue his effort to support other families. We have the following charitable aims: To fund critically needed research into new treatments for childhood brain tumours. To support other UK families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis. Our efforts have two main programme in flight: We are creating ‘Will’s Woodland’! A retreat in Devon for families on a childhood cancer journey to be able to take a free break in safety and seclusion away from a hospital setting to find time to just be as a family. This is amazingly important as these vital months of life are often dominated by a hospital environment. We are funding INSTINCT 2, a new 5 year research programme into developing new treatments into childhood brain tumours led from Newcastle university. This is the major UK effort in discovering new potential clinical treatments and comes at a critical time where new genetically tailored or immunotherapy treatments are due to emerge alongside more traditional (and sadly only partly effective) chemo/radiotherapy.

Year 6 are raising money for Little Hero as our friend Will died at the age of 6 from a brain tumor. He was a very energetic, funny boy who was loved in our year and we remember him for always wearing flip flops and he loved superheroes! The money we raise by doing the fun run will go to a charity called Little Hero (which his parents set up after he died) to help people who suffer the same disease as he did and give poorly children and their families a safe holiday. At his funeral, we were all given a bracelet to remember him by and to help us remember all the memories that we had with him. In our school -Westbury Park- we set up a bench for Will so when somebody is feeling sad or alone they can sit on it and somebody will come and ask if they want to hang out.

We (lots of Y6!) are running the family run on Sunday 19th May to raise awareness and remember our friend.

Please support us in any way that you can- either by cheering us on from the sidelines, running a mile yourselves or donating some money to this amazing charity.

Thank you!
