At West Hill Golf Club our Men’s Captain, Phil Edwards, and Women’s Captain Jan Gilkes, are proud to support the Woking Lighthouse as their Captain’s Charity for 2024/25.
The Woking Lighthouse is a local and volunteer based charity, focused on helping those in most need in our community. They provide a series of different services aimed at improving and transforming lives of local people of all ages in most need, for whatever reason.
Here is a list of just a few of their many projects
• Food and Hygiene Bank.
• Jigsaw Storehouse- free, pre-loved clothing and items for children u11’s.
• Community lunch each week- free and open to all.
• Cookery course- learning to cook healthy on a budget.
• Style Studio- 2nd hand clothes for men and women.
• Chat, advice and support.
Their Patron is HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh, and their impact has been recognised with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
They have 350 local volunteers, supported by a small staff team.
The Woking Lighthouse is able to operate through the generosity of financial donations, skills and the time of local people, businesses, schools and churches.
More than 8,000 local people benefited from Lighthouse projects last year. All this in just 10 years.
