Story

The Walled Garden and Wisecraft’s dedicated staff team will be walking 10 miles in aid of a new van!

Can you help us reach our fundraising target of £1,000?

Since 1994, PKAVS has delivered wellbeing support to the Perthshire community. Through facilitation of meaningful and therapeutic activities we aim for people to have better physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. At Wisecraft, our fully equipped joinery workshop allows for the development of woodwork skills at all levels. Staff, volunteers and clients work together achieving customer orders - bird tables, garden/memorial benches, signage and so much more! Clients are involved in each project from start to finish, including the delivery of items to customers’ homes and workplaces.

Ongoing repair and maintenance costs for our existing van continue to burden our already restricted charitable budget, posing a real risk to the sustainability of our workshop. Through this fundraising event and further grant applications, we hope to be able to purchase and run a newer van, which will last us many years.

How does woodworking help support our clients?

Through concentration, the tasks at hand help keep the mind sharp and encourages creativity. Working through and completing tasks boosts mood and allows clients to gain self-confidence; there is a huge amount of fulfilment!

The workshop has become an increasingly and importantly more diverse community, offering clients a space of safety and relief from the pressures they face in daily life. Clients share their appreciation for being ‘hands on’ whilst having social opportunity to share what’s on their mind. This has been particularly valuable for referred men, who have found our workshop to be a social lifeline. Within our workshop clients are learning more about how to support each other and understanding that many people have gone through similar situations themselves. Through the involvement in customer deliveries, clients will experience a direct feeling of fulfilment, achievement and pride. It will help foster a sense of connection to the wider community and establish feelings of purpose. The knowledge that clients hard work is invested back into the charity’s budget is hugely empowering.

It is always great to be able to chat with the customer when we drop something off and finding out why they chose us. For them to say well done for a job I have put my heart and soul into finishing, makes me feel good inside’’.
