Story
You have a body that you don't get to choose.
How you treat it and use it is up to you.
I don't believe "self" is an absolute. I don't believe you're ever stuck in one version of yourself unless you choose to stay there.
And if you're not contented, calm or happy with that person why would you choose to stay there? If you're relying on coping mechanisms to get through your day to day then are you ever really okay?
It's a cliché but life really is a journey.
I have made a choice to train to run the Great South Run 2024 and this year I have made a choice to do so in affiliation with Crossways Counselling Services.
Because, this year, I have made another choice to seek support with my mental health. I was stuck in one version of myself and my coping mechanisms were dissolving the resolve in my own self worth.
You have a brain that you don't get to choose.
How you treat it and use it is up to you.
It's good to talk.
