I'm going to push my wheelchair East to West across Mid-Wales, from Felindre to Aberystwyth. 100km and 1.6km of elevation through the Cambrian mountains, to raise awareness for Spinal Cord Injuries and support for Access Adventures. Who have helped me on the way to restoring a bit of balance in my life after it was blown apart by a Spinal Cord Injury.

With disability comes loss. What Access Adventures do is exactly what it says on the tin. They provide platforms to adventure and challenges that off-hand, you would think are off-limits to the disabled, restoring some of those losses as well as presenting new opportunities.

Before I broke my back, adventure sports were a huge part of my life and personality. I remember the tears in hospital as the realisation set in, so many of the things that made me me, just weren't going to be the same any more.

It took almost 4 years of frustration and pretty dark depressive episodes, before my wife booked me onto a trip with Access Adventures. I was thrown into a lake just off the M25, with a group of like minded folk in similar situations and dragged around behind a wake boat for the weekend. I'd never water-skied before, but it ticked all the boxes for me, adrenaline, fresh air and exercise It was definitely a challenge. With all their knowledge, specialist equipment and the encouragement of the group, we were all up and flying around in the sunshine. A moment of real clarity and realisation, a lot of the exclusivity and loss I had suffered was overcome-able.

For those of us so often excluded, Access Adventures are an invaluable resource to reestablishing connections to a wilder side of life.
