stephen spencer is raising money for The Wave Project

Cycling around the UK to volunteer at every Wave Project venue

The Wave Project is an award winning UK charity that helps vulnerable children and young people improve their health and wellbeing through a combination of surfing and mentoring. With the aid of our amazing volunteers and supporters, we've worked with thousands of children over the past 12 years.

Story

Hi, I’m Steve – and I’ve been a part of Wave Project Scotland for over 8 years now. It’s been an incredible journey helping to grow our projects in Dunbar, St Andrews and Lost Shore, and I’m proud to have played a part in their success.

This amazing team of volunteers use their love of surfing to help children and young adults find the confidence, courage and resilience they need to deal with life's challenges - they literally change lives and you can find out more at https://www.waveproject.co.uk/what-we-do/

This year, I’m turning 60 – and to celebrate, I’ve decided to take on an epic journey to raise money for the Wave Project and share the stories of the amazing young people we support, along with the volunteers and partners who make it all possible.

I’ll be cycling 1000 miles across the UK, climbing hills that in total match the height of Mount Everest plus a couple of Munroes– all to visit our 16 Wave Project locations. Starting in Bristol, I'll work my way through Devon and Cornwall, along the South Coast of England then North through Yorkshire and Tynemouth. I'll finish the journey on my home turf, visiting Dunbar, Edinburgh and St Andrews.

And I won’t just be pedalling! At each stop, I’ll throw on my volunteer rash vest, jump in the sea, and join our surfers and fellow volunteers in the waves. After a long day in the saddle, I’ll wash off and head straight into the water to support our surfers and connect with our incredible volunteer teams.

But this journey isn’t about me – it’s about every Wave Project surfer, their families, our volunteers, the partner surf schools, and the funders who make the magic happen. If you're already involved with Wave Project and want to share your experience as part of this, please follow the link - I'd love to hear from you! https://form.typeform.com/to/JhS8nass

I already know that the Wave Project community is "Different Gravy!" – and I’m on a mission to find out exactly why.
