Story
On 10 September outside Treadmill Gym in Halifax, I met a lovely man called Harry. Harry suffers with dementia and I didn’t realise at first
It was 6 in the morning and he had been out for hours. He wanted to get home, so after Mitch had got him out of the rain, we got him in the car and I made our way around Illingworth to try and find his home.
He was telling me about his son and his wife, his life and the work he did as a relief worker at the Golf Course and other memories.
I posted on Facebook as I really didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to leave him at A &E, he was wet through to his skin. People started commenting on the post and finally we got him safe 🥳
It wasn’t until I had left him with close family friends that I discovered his wife and son were sadly no longer with us.
Harry is the kindest soul even in that hour I was with him, he really has touched my heart and I wanted to raise a bit of money for Dementia UK.
Harry is safe and back with his lovely family and out of his wet clothes.
I shall just be walking down the roads Harry mentioned to me while we were looking for his home, dressed as a unicorn and then to town to hopefully raise some money.
Please if you can, donate to this wonderful charity that try and help people with this awful disease that takes people away day by day.
To the McGowans and the Pickles family - I really am truly glad and honoured to have met Harry 🫶🏻
