Story
When I was 16, my hero, my rock, my Mum was diagnosed with Young-Onset Alzheimer's disease at the age of 49.
It was a devastating blow, leaving me in disbelief and searching for answers to questions like, "what does this mean? How long do we have? How do we cure this?"
Unfortunately, the answer to these questions is shared by 55 million other families affected by Dementia globally.
The harsh reality became clear - there is currently only one guarantee after diagnosis.
I refuse to accept losing my mum.
I may be running away from this reality but am determined to run towards funding a cure and raising awareness that dementia is NOT a normal part of ageing.
This challenge is not just about me; it's about affording future generations an opportunity of not having to say a premature goodbye to their loved ones and heroes alike.
What is the BORDELINE challenge?
I will be running the entire Offa's Dyke trail from Chepstow to Prestatyn, covering 180 Miles with over 8000 metres of elevation.
This challenge is equivalent to climbing Mt. Everest and running almost 7 marathons in just 3 days (as I have booked a long weekend off work!).
BORDERLINE will be the hardest thing I have ever done.
This challenge pales in comparison to the persistent resilience of family carers (heroes) who face this battle every day.
I am urgently seeking your support as I attempt to run from the bottom to the top of 'God's Country' (WALES) on June 21, 2024.
Please help me reach my fundraising target for the world leading dementia researchers at Race Against Dementia.
They simply exist to beat dementia.
A mission I am proud to get behind.
