Story
My late grandfather, Harry Martin Harvey, was a passionate advocate for human rights and a lifelong supporter of Amnesty International. He believed deeply in standing with oppressed people everywhere - regardless of culture, creed, or colour. As a gifted wordsmith, his contribution to the struggle for justice took the form of writing letters to individuals imprisoned under brutal, oppressive regimes, those enduring inhumane conditions simply for asserting their basic rights.
His unwavering compassion and quiet determination to speak out against injustice continue to inspire me. He understood that suffering inflicted on one is a wound shared by us all - a truth I, too, feel deeply.
Running for Amnesty International is my way of picking up where he left off - of standing alongside those who are suffering, and helping them reclaim their freedom and dignity. With your support, we can offer hope to people in desperate circumstances - in Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, Ukraine, and many other places where rights are under threat. Every step and every donation to Amnesty International is a move towards a fairer, more just world, for all of us.
