Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
On the 21st March 2026 at 9am, I commence my journey from the Nive River Bridge in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France. By foot, I will cross the Pyrenees and then northern Spain, finishing 500 miles later in Santiago de Compostela, nearly on the Atlantic coast.
This is the Camino de Santiago de France (The Way), which is attempted by almost half a million pilgrims per year and represents a journey of self-actualisation and understanding of who we exactly are.
The plan is to run, self-supported and alone, for the duration of the pilgrimage to my destination, with only myself, the trail, and solitude as company.
While most pilgrims allow 4-5 weeks for the walk, the fastest known self-supported time for the route was set in 2025 and currently stands at 8d 9h 16m 12s.
Its a carrot. But nothing more than that.
Self-supported will mean very much that, and I will be self-sufficient and totally self-reliant, the rules of any Fastest Known Time. Where safe and legal, I will sleep and rest in the wild.

March is one of the less travelled months for The Way, mainly due to the shorter days and unpredictable weather movements.
Having reached my half-century a few weeks before, it will provide a point of self-reflection and understanding.
In this world, extended periods of time alone are rare.
Being alone, but not lonely, is important for growth. Solitude and isolation are subtly different things but entirely worlds apart.
Learning to be comfortable and settled with one's own company for extended periods of time isn't easy, and managing the mind is key.
That will always be the toughest aspect and leaving those I love.
My professional world is devoted to the mental health and psychological well-being of doctors, and particularly those of us who we call ‘'wounded healers'.
My work at NHS Practitioner Health, supporting the mental health of NHS colleagues, is a vocation of calling and service.
My efforts on The Way will represent one of the hardest things I have ever done, but will be represented by any help i can give to our chosen charity, Doctors in Distress.
Doctors in Distress is an independent charity which provides peer support for all healthcare workers to protect their mental health and prevent suicide
