Will's fundraiser for The Hunchman Trust

Will O'Meara is raising money for The Hunchman Trust
In memory of Dad / Steve

Marathon · 25 October 2026

The Hunchman Trust supports people grieving a loved one, particularly those affected by suicide loss. Founded in memory of ‘Hunch,’ we fundraise, provide grants, and build partnerships to ensure no one faces grief alone. Together, we create community, offer support, and empower healing.

Story

March 2026 marked two years since the old man passed.

Those close know it’s something I’ve found tough. Some days are good, some days are shit.

This isn’t a sob story - I’m well aware others have it far worse - but I’ve been reliably (and repeatedly) informed that exercise is “good for your mind,” which feels suspicious, but here we go.

For years, Dad would often ask if I’d ever do another marathon.

Which was likely his way of kindly informing me that I’d put on some timber.

And he was right.

So, in memory of him, and to raise money for a superb charity, The Hunchman Trust (see below), I’ve decided it’ll be a good idea to run a couple of marathons in October 2026.

11th October – Budapest

18th October – Mallorca

24th October - Richmond to Camberley

Absolutely no sentimental link to Budapest or Mallorca - they’re just flat.

Then on the 24th October, I’ll be running (light jogging / walking / crawling) from Richmond RFC to Camberley RFC - the two places he spent the vast majority of his time in his final years.

Conveniently, they’re about 26 miles apart. Less conveniently, I’ll be covering the distance.

Most importantly though, I’ll be raising money for the brilliant The Hunchman Trust.

The Hunchman Trust was set up in 2023, by the 3 sensational Smith brothers, that I’ve become incredibly fond of over the past few years. They set it up after losing their dad, Hunch, in 2010, and have since gone on to do some incredible work supporting people dealing with grief.

They’re a grant-giving charity that believes in the power of physical challenges to heal mental wounds. They partner with organisations who share their vision and fund initiatives that catch people before they fall. Because in Hunch’s memory, and for every person still fighting, they’re committed to making sure no one has to navigate grief alone.

If you can, please give big. Not for me, for The Hunchman Trust. The money will go a long long way xxxx
