Story
In July 2025, we lost Amelie Zeal, a much-loved Year 10 student at Sir William Romney's School (SWR), where I was proud to be both her Headteacher and the Headteacher of the school community she contributed so much to. Following her brave battle with a Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG) brain tumour, Amelie's loss has left a profound impact on us all. She was an exceptional young person who excelled academically, represented the school with distinction on the sports field, and shared her talents through music and performances. Her warmth, determination and infectious spirit touched so many lives, and she is deeply missed every day by students, staff and the wider community.
Every nine days, a child is diagnosed with this devastating disease, and the average survival time following diagnosis is just 9 to 12 months. On 10 October 2026, I will be running the Lisbon Marathon in memory of Amelie and to raise vital funds for research into Diffuse Midline Glioma. By supporting this cause, we can help fund the search for more effective treatments and bring hope to children and families affected by this cruel disease.
