Running 10km Every Day in March for Maddy's Mark
This page has been set up to support the amazing charity Maddy’s Mark. Founded in memory of Maddy Lawrence, Maddy’s Mark raises funds to promote positive mental health and well-being in young women through the sport of rugby.
Maddy tragically passed away in March 2022 at the age of 20, following a rugby injury while playing for UWE, her university team. Despite a courageous battle in the hospital, Maddy sadly succumbed to sepsis two weeks after the injury. Bright, loving, and athletic, she was described by friends as a shining light in their lives, and she brought laughter and joy to her close-knit family.
Throughout March I will be doing my best to support Maddy’s charity by running 10km every day to help raise funds. This will include many a 4am wake up to ensure I can get the run in before work, hopefully this extra pain will provide some extra motivation for you to support Maddy's charity.
Maddy’s Mark creates opportunities for young girls to start and continue playing sport while also providing vital mental health support. The benefits of sport—both physical and mental—are well documented, making the work of Maddy’s charity incredibly important.
Right now, more and more girls are dropping out of sport (https://womeninsport.org/news/more-than-1-million-teenage-girls-fall-out-of-love-with-sport/), often due to a lack of opportunities and support. Maddy’s Mark, with your help, can help reverse this trend. By providing the right infrastructure, encouragement, and an enjoyable environment, the charity empowers young girls to get involved in rugby and continue their sporting journeys.
Your support can make a real difference in keeping more girls engaged in sport, building confidence, friendships, and positive mental well-being along the way. So if you are able to spare a little hard worked cash for Maddy's charity I would be forever grateful!!
Big thanks again,
Will
