Story
On the 30th November 2025 I will be running the Florence Marathon in support of Momentum Children’s Charity, an incredible charity that provides vital support to families whose children are facing cancer or life-challenging conditions.
This cause means a great deal to me personally. In 2002 my girlfriend, Yasmine, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 3. She spent the following two and a half years receiving what her parents, Ali & Dom, can only describe as the best medical attention they could have hoped for, from the National Health Service and the many care givers who they met along the way.
‘In early 2004 Bianca Effemey approached Ali and Dom along with Jacquie Coppellotti and her family about forming a fund raising group to support some of the needs that go beyond the medical issues of the families involved in these life changing moments’.
From an initiative that started out with the group bringing in ‘air conditioning’ to the isolation wards in the paediatric department of Kingston Hospital, the charity, now into its 21st year, provides life-changing assistance to families of seriously ill children. From emotional and practical support to special experiences that bring moments of comfort and joy during the toughest times. Whether its offering counselling, hospital support or simply creating respite, Momentum does extraordinary work to ensure families are supported when it matters most.
Through Yasmine, her inspirational parents Ali & Dom and two loving sisters Jess & Elanor, I’ve come to understand further the importance of Momentum and the vital role it plays in supporting families facing childhood illness.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps Momentum Children’s Charity continue its incredible work in making a meaningful difference to the lives of children facing serious illness
