Story

Running 50km after just 50 days training to raise money for Children's Hospice South West.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Andrew: "It's about time we planned an adventure. This Ultramarathon's in December. You up for it?"

Will: "Urmmm...YEAH! Next Christmas would be kind of wild!"

Andrew: "No, it's this Christmas, in 50 days' time. I've signed us up!"

Will: "But...I've never even run a marathon. This is 50km! Is that even possible???"

We are about to find out!!!

#50DAYS50KM:

The Celtic Ultra is a circular route starting and finishing in Dare Valley Park - 50 kilometres - 5194 ft ascent.

The route is entirely off road and goes through woodlands, pastures, moorland and mountainsides. It is a fast, fun, runnable route following some of Wales hidden trails over the vast expanse of the Afan Forest, Rhigos mountain range and surrounding hillsides.

Make no mistake: we have NEVER DONE ANYTHING remotely like this before. I (Will) have run 14 miles (unofficially) and done a few hikes here and there. Other than that, the odds are stacked against us for running 50 kilometers with only 50 days of training.

But...we love a challenge. A training plan is in place. We want to use this to raise some money for an awesome charity, at a time when families who are missing little ones, or coping with the most challenging of circumstances, will really appreciate the support.

£1, £10, £100: every little helps, so please don't feel your donation has to be HUGE to make a BIG impact.

CHILDREN'S HOSPICE SOUTH WEST (CHSW):

Children's Hospice South West provide hospice care for children and young people living with life-limiting conditions and their whole family. Hospice breaks, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care across 3 wonderful children's hospices: Little Bridge House in Devon, Charlton Farm in Somerset and Little Harbour in Cornwall.

As a young Children's Author, supporting Children's Hospice South West has been one of the most rewarding things I've ever done, and introduced me to the warmest, kindest community of people. From fundraising cycles and wine-tasting events to "The Shrew With The Flu" draw-and-dance along sessions in Hidden Woods: we've collaborated on a lot of special projects.

Now, we have the chance to thank all those nurses, families, and fundraisers for enriching our lives by doing something TRULY BONKERS and running 50km (in one go!) after just 50 days of training.

Wish us luck!

Will and Andrew
