Story
100km Around the Gower for Mabli ❤️
In December, I’m taking on a 100km run around the Gower Peninsula to raise money for Mabli and her family, supporting Just4Children.
Mabli is a wonderfully happy little girl from Carmarthen who loves being outdoors, splashing in water and exploring in her Wizzybug. But behind her huge smile, everyday life is incredibly challenging.
Mabli has GATAD2B Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorder (GAND syndrome), an extremely rare condition affecting only around 450 people worldwide. It means that moving, eating, learning and communicating are all much harder for her. She is non-verbal and lives with significant developmental and physical challenges, requiring constant care and support.
Her family spend countless hours travelling to appointments and fighting to access the therapies and equipment she needs. Much of this vital support isn't available through the NHS, while her mum has had to stop working to care for Mabli full-time.
Despite all of this, Mabli is making amazing progress. With the right support, she has learned to crawl and is now working incredibly hard to use her walker. The therapies and equipment funded by donations are helping to give her opportunities that many of us take for granted.
So, in December, I’m going to run 100km around the Gower Peninsula, a pretty daunting distance, and one that I know will hurt!
But that is nothing compared with the daily challenges Mabli and her family face.
I’m hoping to raise as much as possible to help fund physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, intensive therapies and accessibility equipment that can make a genuine difference to Mabli’s life.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean a huge amount to me, Mabli and her family.
Thank you for taking the time to read Mabli’s story, and thank you for helping me get around the Gower!
Diolch ❤️
