Story
Hi there,
Thank you for visiting my page. I want to raise money for a small charity very close to home and am undertaking a huge challenge to do so.
As many of you know, we have a son (Odie) who has a genetic condition called Mowatt-Wilson Syndrome. Odie is very developmentally delayed and as a result and is non-verbal and has difficulty walking among other physical and mental limitations for a six year old child.
We are extremely blessed to have a fantastic SEND school very near us called "Downs View". They look after Odie and many other children so beautifully and with a huge amount of care. They are, however, always in need of charitable donations in order to keep the level of support the children so desperately need.
Since the pandemic, the ability to hold fundraising events has suffered, with fewer and fewer taking place. With less money coming in year on year, the charity has relied heavily on its reserves in order to continue to support the school by purchasing vital equipment and resources that the school so obviously needs.
Having swam the English Channel in 2024, I knew that I would have to go above and beyond this time, and so I have decided to swim the length of Lake Geneva, a 70km swim in August 2026. This will be approximately a 24 hour non-stop swim, in water temperatures around 16-19 degrees, without a wetsuit, and obviously swimming through the night and in fresh water as opposed to the salty, more buoyant, sea.
To date, only 16 people have completed the swim, and I know I will have my work cut out to complete it... knowing I am swimming for a charity so close to home, which will make such a huge difference to the families and children at the school, will make both the training and the swim itself all the more rewarding.
Thank you - any donation is welcome no matter how big or small.
Will
