Story

Hi Team,

It's me, back with some more running content / a challenge coming your way, raising money for the wonderful Harambee Schools Kenya. Always curious to push the limits of my capabilities, I have decided to dive into the deep end of track running. Running for 24 hours around Battersea Track in the Sri Chinmoy Self Transcendence 24 hour race, along with 40 or so other people. There is plenty of unknown in this race, having not run over 100km before, and hopefully aiming to double that... maybe? or not? or more?

I'm running for HSK because they help provide a brilliant education for so many children in Kenya. Having seen first-hand the work HSK do, and the power that education and a stable food programme can have on a child’s life, I am honoured to be raising money for them again.

Having sat in on a HSK trustee meeting recently, I know how the money is distributed and needed now more than ever due to high inflation and the cost of living crisis in Kenya. The simple act of providing a food programme can keep a child in attendance at school, often providing their only meal of the day.

I am sure there will be some very dark moments during the race, mainly as it goes through the night... but also as I explore new boundaries, and raising money for a charity close to my heart will provide that extra juice needed to see it through to the morning.

Harambee Schools Kenya is truly a magnificent charity - please check them out, give them a follow, and if you are able to, please donate generously.

*** competition time! I have a couple of targets in mind of how far I will run, but frankly, it is very much a guessing game. My body could decide to pack it in well short of the 24 hours, or it could be feeling fresh 20 hours in (unlikely). Please take a swing at guessing my overall distance after 24 hours, in kilometres. The closest few guesses will win a special prize... all to be revealed. To enter, just pop your guess in your donation comment. ***

Training has been going well, no complaints. In the last few weeks alone, I have run a few marathons on the track to get the mind used to it, and run half of the capital ring, which was 60km out through Richmond and up passed Brentford, passed Wembley and around to Hampstead.

Finally, if anyone has nothing to do on the weekend of the 30th September from midday on the Saturday through to midday on Sunday, please feel free to drop in and throw about some words of encouragement. I can't promise you'll see a thrilling race, but I can promise you'll see a man in great discomfort.

Thanks all
