After taking last year off from fundraising due to a few niggling injuries, I’ve decided it’s time to get back in the saddle. In September 2026, along with my friend Liam and my fathers friend Bobby, we will be cycling from London to Amsterdam, covering over 500km through four countries.

As we pedal through the English, French, Belgian, and Dutch countryside, we will be proudly riding in the colours of Wigtownshire RFC, carrying with us the memory of a club my father adored.

I’m also incredibly grateful that my father’s friend Bobby has decided to get onboard with this challenge. Bobby shares the same strong connection to Wigtownshire, and having his support makes this journey even more meaningful. It’s a reminder of the community, friendships, and shared memories that continue to drive us forward.

This year, we are raising money for Beatson Cancer Charity, which supports the incredible work of the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. The charity helps fund vital equipment, pioneering research, and enhanced patient care, while also providing support to patients and their families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

Cancer is something that has touched so many of our lives in one way or another. Its effects ripple far beyond the diagnosis itself, and the care, research, and patient support funded by Beatson Cancer Charity can make a life changing difference during incredibly difficult times.

The ride itself will be a huge challenge. Liam has never taken on an endurance cycle like this before and being only seven months post ACL reconstruction surgery adds even more difficulty. Bobby, at 62 years old, is proving that age is just a number as he climbs back on the bike some 20 years after his last ride.

But no matter how difficult the journey becomes, it is nothing compared to what people battling cancer face every day.

For all of us involved, this ride is about far more than distance or endurance.

This one is for the ones we have lost, and the ones still fighting.
