PULL UP A SANDBAG - ALONG THE WALL!
Hi I’m Will, I am a Coldstream Guard Veteran who spent 24yrs in the military and I’ve had the stupid idea of walking Hadrian’s Wall in aid of a charity close to my hearts, Veterans Coast Retreats.
My aim is to set off from Carlisle on Sunday 31st May 2026 and arrive in Newcastle on Friday 5th June 2026 after completing the 135km along this historic route.
The route and dates are confirmed-
-Saturday 30 May, travel from Bude to Carlisle.
-Sunday 31 May, Bowness on Solway to Carlisle (22.5km).
-Monday 1 June, Carlisle to Banks (25.7km).
-Tuesday 2 June, Banks to Twice Brewed (12.8km).
-Wednesday 3 June, Twice Brewed to Chollerford (17.7km).
-Thursday 4 June, Chollerford to Heddon on the Wall (24.2km)
-Friday 5 June, Heddon on the Wall to Wallsend / Newcastle (24.2km).
-Saturday 6 June, travel from Newcastle to Bude.
Pull up a SANDBAG is a cultural phase in the military, meaning to pull up a seat and spin dits and share stories. By taking this term on the walk, I plan to support mental health through open minded chats with people I meet along the wall.

Veterans Coastal Retreats offers veterans and their families a chance to rejuvenate through stress-free holidays and outdoor activities, fostering family bonding and healing.
Mission and Purpose
Veterans Coastal Retreats (VCR) is dedicated to providing veterans and their families with opportunities to enjoy short breaks in a supportive environment. Founded by Richard Perkins, a soldier who recognized the need for such a service, VCR aims to alleviate the stresses faced by veterans, particularly in light of the current cost-of-living crisis. The retreats are designed to help veterans experiencing mental or physical health challenges due to their service, allowing them to reconnect with their families and create lasting memories together.
