How and what happened to Me in 2025
So in the middle of May 2025 I developed a persistent cough for more than 3 weeks , so as advised , went to the Doctors….6 days later I was “blue lighted “to A.R.I. & 1 day later I was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer & Bony Metastases.
What lied ahead was very unknown and frightening for myself and my loved ones. I had never had any health issues in my life , or spent any time in a hospital.
The treatment and care @ ARI through all the different departments, I cannot thank them enough.
I was then told that I’d need intense Chemotherapy for a quite a few months and was referred to The Anchor Unit .
The Chemotherapy was very very hard , chemotherapy treatment has now finished but I still attend for other treatment, but is less frequent. I have become to know many of the staff & volunteers that are at the Friends of Anchor Unit , who have become like a second family to me
THE OPPORTUNITY OF BRAVE 2026
Whilst attending The Friends of Anchor Unit there were many of the volunteers @ the entrance asking if I’d like to apply for Brave 2026 and friend Ali Murray ( aka Bugsy ) who had previously been chosen for Brave in 2018 said if you are chosen, it’s a once in a lifetime experience.
I thought this is definitely not for me and so so far from my comfort zone and at the time I had a full C .T. Scan @ the beginning of January , and not knowing the results by the 20th January.
Closing date for applications for Brave was 30th January , so my time was very close for making a decision to apply.
The results were good and although I will never be free of this horrible hand that has been dealt to me but with medication / treatments have suppressed and I can hopefully live at least a reasonably normal life and give me positivity.
With statements to support my application for Brave 2026 from friends , family & work colleagues I was honoured to be chosen , and I was so shocked when I received the phone call from Naomi
