Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.

In loving memory of my cousin Lily, I will be running the London Marathon for Sarcoma UK on the 27th of April. They are a national charity that funds vital research, offers support and campaigns for better treatments.

At the age of 20, my cousin Lily-Rose Bury was diagnosed with stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma in November 2019.

Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and unfortunately one of the hardest to treat. It’s been a cause very close to our hearts since Lily was diagnosed.

After her diagnosis, Lily went through gruelling chemotherapy, radiotherapy and experienced first hand the reality of fighting sarcoma cancer. With the exceptional help of the team at Sarcoma UK and extraordinary life extending treatment she received, Lily managed to get 2 more precious years of life with her family & loved ones.

Importantly, it gave her time to achieve some of her biggest dreams - marrying the love of her life Joe, finishing her physics degree, and getting her dream job in the city. It was so important to Lily in her final years to work hard fundraising as much as possible for Sarcoma UK in the time she had left, now she’s gone, it’s important for us to keep championing the cause.

Lily fought hard for two years, but unfortunately this was a battle she couldn’t win. She passed away peacefully at home in December 2021 with family by her side, aged just 22.

By supporting Sarcoma UK, you’ll be helping thousands of people in the same situation as our Lily was.

Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep the specialist support line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care. Any donations will go far in helping the Sarcoma community.

Thank you all for your support.
