We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

The 'why'

Raising Money for Mind Charity in Memory of my cousin Oggy.

My Cousin Oggy was very special to my family and I. He sadly passed away in July 2019 after a difficult number of years with addiction. He was the comedian of the family, the one that made everyone laugh and is missed every day by anyone that knew him.

For a while I've been wanting to hit 'go' on a challenge to raise money for a charity that can help people going through addiction and mental health struggles like my cousin Chris did. If this can help one person then I'll consider it an amazing job. That's why I'm raising money for Mind.

The Challenge

This winter I'll be facing the hardest physical and mental challenge I've ever done by hiking/running the three highest peaks in the uk and cycling between them.

I'll be starting by taking on the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, 1,345m high. I'll then be descending down and mounting my bike to cycle through the night around 250 miles (402km) to England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike standfing at 978m. I'll summit and descend this peak in the lake district before heading back to my bike. Finally I'll be cycling from England to Wales around 195 miles (312km) before summiting Snowdon (1,085m) and descending back to complete the challenge.

In total this challenge involves over 700km in hilly cycling, as well as the 3 highest mountains climbed in the UK - a total of over 3,400m vertical meters climbed.

Due to cold weather conditions especially on the peaks, I'll be building an amazing team to help support both from an activity and safety crew side of things.

I'm aiming to get this done all in one weekend from Friday night to Sunday night, with a few short sleep breaks to help me through. Due to the time of year there will be around 7:30 of daylight hours making this challenge even harder.

The Charity

From Mind: How do we make a difference?

- We change minds across England and Wales by making mental health an everyday priority. By standing up to the injustices – in healthcare, in work, in law – which make life harder for those of us with mental health problems.

- We support minds – by offering help whenever you might need it through our information, advice and local services.

- And we connect minds. Bringing together an unstoppable network of individuals and communities – people who care about mental health to make a difference.
