Story
In memory of our student Jessica Baker, a keen climber who died three years ago, the West Kirby Grammar School Climbing Club are aiming to climb the equivalent height of Mount Everest to honour her legacy and to raise funds for her family's chosen charity.
The group, made up of students, staff and student leaders (our aptly named WKGS Sherpas), will attempt to scale our 7.5m high climbing wall a total of 1180 times in just 10 days, to reach the 'summit' at 8,849m - the highest point on earth. To make this challenge possible, they will be climbing throughout every lunchtime, as well as before and after school, on three different routes up the wall to make up the cumulative total.
Money raised will go to Climbers Against Cancer, which works to raise awareness of cancer and to raise funds for the benefit of research into prevention, causes and treatments of the disease, as well as for activities that can help sufferers and their families cope emotionally and physically with the challenges of living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
