Working Chance is an award-winning, pan-London charity creating a revolution in restorative recruitment. Founded in 2007 to address a gap in provision for women ex-offenders, Working Chance supports women in prison and the community to find quality work with mainstream employers, helping to break the intergenerational cycle of re-offending and disadvantage. Working Chance aims to become a national centre of excellence providing a replicable, proven model to prevent and reduce crime and recidivism amongst vulnerable women ex-offenders and care leavers, through employment. It also aims to be the go-to national voice on all things regarding employment of women offenders or at risk of entering the Criminal Justice System (CJS). Working Chance takes a distinct approach to working with ex-offenders – focusing on candidates’ futures rather than their pasts. We empower candidates by focusing on their strengths and ambitions and take a non-judgemental approach in helping them to move on from the criminal justice system. We also seek to challenge preconceptions about ex-offenders wherever we find them and speak out about taking a common-sense approach to the disclosure of criminal convictions.

Story

Originally, I wanted to use this event as a small fundraiser for my Aunt Angie Gibbon, as she was diagnosed with lung cancer, to support one of her final wishes of going abroad, as she had never left the UK.

Unfortunately, she is no longer with us; but we still wish to support her- no matter where she is now.

Angie, as an ex-convict, felt immense satisfaction with getting her life back on track and wanted to use her infectious energy to support others to do the same. She was working on creating an organisation to do exactly this. This is unlikely to develop without her.

Luckily- there are a few charities that align with her sentiment.

Women in Prison, Clean Break, Humankind.

There are a lot of great org's that I can choose but I'm choosing to support Working Chance.

Working Chance helps women with convictions to develop the confidence, skills, and self-belief they need to overcome any barriers to their employment, find jobs and build careers.

I'm not the best with heights - I've always enjoyed pushing the limits of my fears and heights have always been one of the scariest for me. I remember back in primary school bawling my eyes out because I wouldn't trust my harness when jumping off of a small ledge. I simply couldn't face a scary drop.

Knowing I'm jumping out of a plane to "secure the bag" for this charity is horrifying.

If we hit £250 I will be posting videos and photos of me screaming my soul away so y'all can laugh at me!
