Story
Writtle Community First Responders
Every day across our community, lives can change in an instant.
A cardiac arrest. A stroke. A severe asthma attack. A serious accident. A loved one suddenly collapsing at home.
When those calls come in, every second matters.
We are a team of dedicated volunteer Community First Responders (CFRs) proudly supporting the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) by responding to life-threatening 999 emergencies across Writtle, Chelmsford and the surrounding communities.
Because we live locally, we are often able to reach patients quickly, providing immediate care, reassurance and vital interventions during those critical early moments before ambulance crews arrive. Working alongside EEAST, we help ensure patients receive support as early as possible when time matters most.
πWhat We Do
Our responders attend a wide range of emergencies, including:
β’ Cardiac arrests
β’ Chest pain and suspected heart attacks
β’ Breathing difficulties and severe asthma attacks
β’ Strokes
β’ Seizures
β’ Unconscious or collapsed patients
β’ Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
β’ Diabetic emergencies
β’ Serious bleeding and trauma
β’ Patients who are critically unwell or rapidly deteriorating
β’ Other urgent and life-threatening medical emergencies
π Why Our Role Matters
The first few minutes of a medical emergency can be critical.
Early CPR, defibrillation, bleeding control, oxygen therapy and other lifesaving interventions can significantly improve outcomes and, in some cases, make the difference between life and death.
As Community First Responders, we provide immediate support while ambulance crews are on their way, helping patients receive care as quickly as possible and providing reassurance to families during what can be one of the most frightening moments of their lives.
Our aim is simple but vital:
β Preserve life
β Prevent deterioration
β Provide immediate care and reassurance
β Support patients until ambulance crews arrive
π Supporting Our Community
We proudly serve communities across:
Writtle, Chelmsford City, Widford, Springfield, Broomfield, Galleywood, Margaretting, Roxwell, Chelmer Village, Moulsham, Moulsham Lodge, Great Baddow and many other surrounding areas.
This is our community, and we are proud to be there when local people need help most.
We work closely with EEAST ambulance crews as part of the wider emergency response network, helping bridge the gap during those critical early moments before further help arrives.
π Why We Need Your Support
Our group is entirely volunteer-led and relies heavily on the generosity of local people, businesses and supporters.
We are also a growing team, with more volunteers wanting to support the community and respond to emergencies locally. However, essential emergency response equipment is expensive, and much of our kit currently has to be shared between responders.
Every donation, no matter how large or small, directly helps us purchase additional lifesaving equipment and response bags, meaning more responders can be operational at the same time and more emergency cover can be provided across our community.
Your donation helps provide:
- Additional response bags and medical equipment
- More responders available at the same time
- Increased emergency cover across our local communities
- Faster access to care for local patients
- Greater capacity to respond when demand is high
Put simply:
More equipment means more responders available, more hours covered, more emergency cover across our community and more opportunities to reach patients quickly when every second counts.
