Why I’m raising money for CPSL Mind
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I run WS Driving School in Ely, and through my work as a driving instructor I spend a lot of time talking with people while they are learning something that can be exciting, challenging and sometimes genuinely daunting.
Learning to drive isn’t always just about controlling a car.
I regularly see how anxiety, confidence, fear of making mistakes, test pressure and the other things going on in someone’s life can affect the way they learn and how they feel about themselves.
As a driving instructor, my role isn’t to provide mental health advice. But I can create a calm and supportive environment, listen, treat people as individuals and recognise that sometimes there is far more happening in someone’s life than the driving lesson in front of us.
That is why I’ve chosen to raise money for CPSL Mind — Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind.
I particularly wanted to support a local organisation. CPSL Mind works within the communities where I live and work, helping local people with their mental health and wellbeing.
Over the coming year, I’d like this to become more than a single fundraiser.
Through WS Driving School and WS Driving Collective, I hope to raise money, increase awareness of the support available locally and develop useful information around driving anxiety, confidence and wellbeing for learners, parents and driving instructors.
There is absolutely no expectation for any of my pupils or their families to donate. This is simply a cause I believe is worth supporting.
