Westland's fundraiser for Whirlwind Fighter project

Westland Whirlwind is raising money for Whirlwind Fighter project
It is intended that the project will result in a non-airworthy reproduction of the Westland Whirlwind, built to available original plans, with (where possible) original materials. The reproduction will use whatever original structure, parts, including engines, undercarriage and (deactivated / replica) armament, as are currently available. The intention is to produce a reproduction aircraft which is indistinguishable from an aircraft in Squadron service during the Second World War.

Story

We, the Whirlwind Fighter Project aim to reproduce a Westland Whirlwind Fighter.

It is intended that the project will result in a non-airworthy reproduction of the Westland Whirlwind, built to available original plans, with (where possible) original materials. Chris the long-standing Secretary of the Westland Whirlwind Fighter Project passed away recently after a long battle with an illness.
Chris was a true stalwart of the WWFP, his passion, enthusiasm and drive keeping the project alive through some difficult times. Chris will be greatly missed and forever associated with Whirlwind P7056. Chris asked for donations to go to Westland Whirlwind Fighter Project.

In the last three years Pete Smith from the Project has been busy in his workshop, practically every day voluntarily, continuing with the build of the Whirlwind and now anyone visiting the Kent Battle of Britain Museum Trust at Hawkinge can see that the cockpit section, fuselage and tail unit have now been constructed. In the spring 2026 she was painted by the Museum Volunteers to represent ‘The Pride of Yeovil’ Serial No. P7056.

Pete is now busy with the construction of the centre section but we, The Westland Whirlwind Fighter Project, need your help to continue the build of ‘P7056’.
The Whirlwind Fighter Project is an entirely voluntary organisation and intends to remain so. It is a Registered Charity and does not have any paid staff or significant business overheads. While membership fees support not only the build itself but also such costs as postage, hosting this website and transportation, we commit to spending every penny of donations on materials to create P7056.
