Story
Sebby’s Corner is a very special charity in Barnet that supports vulnerable children and families living in poverty across London and the South East.
There are so many different situations that arise that affect families and Sebby's, where possible, steps in to help. It could be families who sometimes have to leave their belongings behind and flee domestic violence within the UK. It could also be refugees fleeing instability in their country. Families who have been bereaved, losing a parent and are now navigating a new way of life whilst raising young children alone. People just like us who are doing their best for their children and life circumstances have made it difficult, sometimes impossible to do so without some additional support.
My wife, Anjali, has helped the charity over the years by collecting donations and volunteering with them. Pranay has also volunteered with Anjali and together they have helped Sebby’s with many different duties including unpacking of donations and preparing referral packs for families. Our family has formed a close bond with Sebby’s over the years and we have even roped in Anjali’s dad, Pranay’s Nana in, to help out on occasion!
Pranay has in the past forgone birthday presents and requested donations to the charity instead. He did this for his 8th and 9th birthdays. He wanted to do this again for his 10th birthday however we insisted that he should also be celebrated and receive presents for himself, so he came up with a plan B!
Pranay has seen first hand some of the ways in which Sebby’s supports vulnerable children and families and this has impacted him somewhere along the line. He decided to contribute last year by spending some of his birthday money on party packs, which he created himself, and shared with the Sebby’s team to pass on to children who would not have been able to celebrate their own birthdays without these. He created 10 packs for his 10th birthday to ensure 10 children were given this opportunity.
I will be running the London Marathon in April 2026 to help raise funds for Sebby's Corner. Having not run a marathon since 2019 and being 7 years older, it’s going to be an interesting run but I’ll give it a go!
Please feel free to donate whatever you can and do get in touch if you wish to donate any essential items instead (e.g. nappies, baby equipment, formula, clothing, or just ask us and we can share more of what is needed).
