An utterly horrible and tragic situation compounded by layers of bureaucracy and a complete lack of common sense…
We have just received an urgent application for a family, with two teenagers currently left alone and unsupported as their only guardian has been taken ill. If this wasn’t traumatic enough, the children are unable to pay rent, gas and electric bills - all of which are due imminently - as guardian’s card has been frozen.
They now can’t even pay for food, let alone these bills.
As the charity, we are of course doing everything we can to support this family but we are bound by our governance and are unable to provide direct funding to cover these expenses.
I can assure you that I am asking all the questions about why and how this has happened, but the most important thing right now is that they get the help and support they need.
I ask anyone reading this, please put yourself in the shoes of two vulnerable young people who are now completely terrified and have no control over this situation.
